We've put together some common questions new recruits have about working for Ferris.

When am I paid?Drivers are expected to keep records of fuel, valeting etc. You will be paid expenses to 15th on 20 of each month, and fully remunerated on 10th of each month.

 

What hours will I be expected to work?Start times vary from 06:45 and 07:45. Average finish time is around 15:00, however, you will be expected to work shorter/longer (with safe working practices) days here and there.

 

Do I need to store vehicles?Yes, you will be expected to store vehicles overnight. You MUST have secure parking, and reside in a low-risk (vehicle theft) postcode area

 

What is the uniform policy?Drivers for certain clients are expected to wear client branded t-shirt/jacket with smart trousers. In general, drivers are expected to be smartly dressed, no blue denim, no trainers except for smart/dress trainers, no sportswear, no shorts.

 

How much internet data would I need?We advise drivers to have unlimited data on their phones. Many suppliers can offer monthly, unlimited data subscription packages.

 

Do I get remibursed for travel expenses? What travel expenses are included?Drivers will be reimbursed for all travel costs. Drivers are expected to use public transport where possible. Taxis are permissible when public transport is limited, and will be reimbursed. It’s important all drivers provide receipts for travel expenses.

 

When are my expenses paid?Drivers will be reimbursed for expenses to 15th of each month on 20th, and fully reimbursed on 10th of each month for the previous month.

 

Am I paid per Vehicle Movement or hourly?Drivers are paid hourly. In general, from when they arrive at the hub to when they arrive home. Drivers are expected to closely fully the day’s schedule provided to them by the Ops Team.

 

What areas do you cover?Ferris operate in the United Kingdom mainland.

 

How far in advance do I know what jobs I am doing?You will know around 13:00 what your day looks like tomorrow.

 

What does the onboarding process look like?Ferris’s client expect extremely high standard, both in customer services, driving skills and knowledge of the vehicles. Firstly you will be required to provide documentation including licence check and DBS. The first day of training you will be with one of the exisitng team for ‘Shadow Training’ – watch and learn. We pay you £60 plus expenses for this day. The second day involves you training at home with various manuals and trial inspections. You will be guided through this by one of the Ops Team. Day 3 is ‘Supervised Training’ – this is your chance to shine. You will be qualified driving instructor who will provide advice on safe and efficient driving, as well and overseeing your inspections and customer interactions. You will be pay £60 for Day 3.

 

What training will I receive?As well as the training you’ll receive during the onboarding process, you will be expected to study the BVRLA FW&T code and learn that code. You will be expected to use the Ferris Driver Hub (which has tonnes of information) to help you improve as you settle in to your role.

 

What equipment will I be issued?You will be issued with an iPad mini (for inspections), line board and ruler. You will be issued with a uniform if appropriate.

 

How many penalty points can I have on my licence?You can have a maximum of 3 points on your licence.

 

Is there an age requirement?You must be over 30 for insurance purposes and have held a UK licence for 5 years.

 

What is involved in the job?You are not only required to deliver vehicles to customers, you are expected to provide the customer with a premium experience: for deliveries, you will have the vehicle valeted before delivery, provide a full handover to the customer (which involves you have in-depth knowledge of the manufacturer/model), and inspect the vehicle to BVRLA standards. You are expected to provide feedback of that experience which is shared with the client to help them improve.

 

It all sounds complicated, why would I want to work for Ferris?Because our clients expect the best, Ferris has to demand from it’s drivers extremely high levels of customer service, knowledge and efficiency. It is a demanding job, but one you will be well paid for. It’s extremely satisfying to get involved with the job, the client and the customers. This role is not just delivering or collecting a vehicle – it’s representing our clients and providing a service we can all be proud of.

 

Where is the job based?Our primary hubs are in the Midlands. From here you can be asked to go as far as Scotland and Cornwall or as near as Birmingham. Each day will be different.

 

Do I need to be technically literate?Yes – you will be expected to use various apps during the day to complete various tasks. You must have excellent communication skills – you will be expected to stay in communication with the Ops department throughout the day.

 

Do I need to bring my own equipment?Yes, whilst you are issued with an iPad, you will be expected to have a mobile phone with ample data.

 

Do I need to provide my own insurance?No, you will be insured under Ferris’s insurance. However, you will be expected to contribute towards excess in case you are involved in an accident.
